August’s Mouth-Friendly Recipe 2013

Brown Bag It! A Healthy School Lunch


  • ½ cup frozen berries
  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup skim, almond or soy milk


  • 1 slice whole-grain bread
  • 4 slices turkey breast
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • Veggie toppings such as lettuce, tomato, onion or pickle


For the smoothie, combine all ingredients in a blender and blend. To make it a portable, lunch-friendly option, pour the smoothie into a thermos.

To make the sandwich, slice the bread in half and spread the Dijon mustard on one side of each half. Layer turkey and veggies on one slice, then top with the other slice. Enjoy your nutritious – and yummy – lunch!
